Our Story - The History of Mile Tree Brewery
Mile Tree Brewery was founded by local Cambridgeshire couple, Richard and Karen in 2012. However, whilst this date marks the beginnings of Mile Tree as the brewery of the present day, its history goes back decades.
Before Mile Tree materialised as a fully functioning brewery, it existed as the hobby and passion of home brewer, Richard. For decades Richard enjoyed brewing and experimenting with different recipes and ingredients on his home brew kit, creating anything from pale ales to take to family barbecues to festive brews to share with friends at Christmas. Over the years, family and friends were only too happy to sample his creations!
The idea to start a brewery first occurred to us after we had spent an evening with friends who were thinking of opening a Touring Park. They had a empty stable block on site and it seemed a perfect location for a brewery. This soon led to the creation of The Secret Garden Touring Park and Mile Tree Brewery, on Mile Tree Lane, Wisbech. With the help of our family and friends we renovated the stable block and by November 2012 we were up and running with a 5 barrel kit! We initially focused on producing cask conditioned beer, yet by 2013 demand encouraged us to start bottling our core beers.
Since then family and friends have regularly turned up to brew, bottle and label. We pride ourselves on being a family run business and believe that the many hands of grandparents, children, family and friends make light work of any task. Whether it has been helping in the brewery, running market stalls, or festival bars the time and energy that these people have given to help our business grow has been outstanding!
In 2017, after 5 years of calling Wisbech Mile Tree’s home the brewery moved to Woodston, Peterborough.
